38-year-old man dies after crashing mountain bike in Boise Foothills
BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — A 38-year-old Boise man died over the weekend after he crashed his mountain bike in the Boise Foothills.
The Ada County Sheriff's Office says deputies received a call about 9 a.m. Saturday that a man crashed his bike on the Spring Valley Creek Trail (near Avimore) and was not breathing.
When paramedics arrived, three people were performing CPR on the rider.
Witnesses told investigators that the man was riding on the trail when he became separated from his friend. They later found the rider about 10 to 15 feet from the trail in a creek in some dense vegetation.
He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The Ada County Coroner's Office has identified the man as 38-year-old Jason Delgadillo.
Friends of Delgadillo say he was passionate about three things in life -- his family, Boise State and mountain biking.
He was well known in the biking community. His passion for the sport was displayed on the website he confounded Boise Trails.
Kirk Cheney has known Delgadillo for five years and worked side by side with him on the Boise Trails project. He describes him as adventurous and says he was extremely generous and kind to everyone he met.
"Everyone from the people that he bought a bike on craigslist, to the people he worked with to the people in the other circles of his life, church and Boy Scouts and work and everything and everyone else have all been touched by him have all been really shocked and saddened," Cheney said.
Delgadillo leaves behind a wife and five children. Agofundmepage has been set up to honor his life and help his family.
